Modern Renaissance essay
The painting I chose for this assignment is the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa was created in 1503 by Leonardo Da Vinci. During 1503 there were many important events going on. There was a couple wars including the french spanish wars, and the battle of Cerignola. Also in this year in January, construction began on the Henry VII Chapel in westminster abbey. This year was filled with many events both happy and sad.
Leonardo Da Vinci born 15 April 1452 was an italian polymath of the Renaissance. He was considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and had been called the father of architecture. He epitomizes the “Renaissance Humanist Ideal”. He was known to be one the most talented individuals to have ever lived because his mind and personality seem to us superhuman, while he himself was mysterious and remote. His view of the world was logical and the methods he employed were unorthodox for his time. He spent most of his earlier life working for a man names Ludovico il Moro in Milan then he later worked in Rome and Venice because spending his last years in France. His most famous work is the Mona Lisa which is sometimes called the “Most parodied portrait” and The Last Supper which was the most reproduced religious painting of all time. Da Vinci’s work is so famous to this day you can see his drawing of the Vitruvian Man on items such as the euro coin, textbooks, and T-shirts.
The reason I chose to do this painting is because it is extremely fascinating to me. His work is so beautiful and the story and conspiracy behind it is so interesting. I love how in the photo you can’t tell whether she’s happy or sad but when your happy you see half a smile and when you’re sad you see half a frown. The colours in the painting are dark and on the green side but at the same time are so captivating. People may say that this is one of the most basic paintings to choose but it's not about the most famous it's about the most beautiful to you as your own individual. Many people have different opinions over this painting but to me it's beautiful, dark, and fascinating.
